Developing Social Skill In Children Through Drama

Developing social skills in children prepares them to form meaningful and lasting friendships and partnerships, they also learn to give importance and value to those around them. In the panel discussion experts will share their views and experience on how social skills development in children has been significantly affected by the ongoing social distancing and lock downs and how drama can help children to develop empathy, social skills and the ability to collaborate as a team mate.

Speakers

Patrice Baldwin
Drama For Learning Expert, UK

Patrice is an internationally acclaimed ‘Drama for Learning’ expert and was President of the International Drama Theatre and Education Association (IDEA) from 2010-13, and thereby the Drama representative for the World Alliance for Alliance for Arts Education for 3 years. She has been a speaker and workshop leader at conferences and universities in around 40 countries. She was Chair of National Drama (UK) for 11 years, (until 2015) and is currently a Director of the UK’s Council for Subject Associations. In 2020/21, she has worked with the Oak National Academy as their Subject Lead for Primary Drama, writing their Primary Drama curriculum and sourcing government funded, online drama lessons for children working at home, during the pandemic.


Erika Piazzoli
Lecturer, Arts Education, Trinity College Dublin

Erika Piazzoli is a university lecturer at the School of Education, Trinity College Dublin. She has worked with children and teachers for over twenty year, specialising on drama and storytelling for second language learning. Her research and practice focuses on the productive tension between the arts, drama and language acquisition, in the context of formal and informal education. She gained her Ph.D. in Drama Education at Griffith University (Brisbane, Australia) where she worked as a researcher and lecturer from 2008 to 2015. She joined Trinity College Dublin in 2015 where she currently teaches on the Language Education and Drama in Education degrees, within the Master in Education (M.Ed.) programme. Juhi Malini Mehta
Creative Education Expert

Juhi Malini Mehta has been working in the field of education for the past 26 years, with a focus on creativity in education as a teacher, trainer, and parenting counsellor at various school across India.
She founded the Life Express School of Creative Learning and Performing Arts in 2009, to provide a platform for children and adults to discover, hone and nurture their creative talents. Life Express is well known for its Storytelling, Reading clubs, Drama, Speech, Communication Skills, Dance, Art, Clay Modelling, Pottery, Music and Rock & Pop classes. As Representative and Coordinator of Trinity College London in her region, she brings additional value to this
process by guiding students to take the Trinity College London certification in Speech & Drama, Communication Skills, Music and Performance Arts subjects. She founded the Life Express UnSchool in 2017, and is the Head Teacher.


Vaishali Chakravarty
Drama & Life Skills Educator
Founder, Joy Of Drama

Vaishali is a theatre practitioner, drama educator & entrepreneur. She has performed in several theatre productions with Actor Factor Theatre Company. She founded Joy Of Drama in 2015, a fast growing drama and life skills training organization with centres across India and a number of successful online programs.​
Vaishali is one of the few theatre practitioners who have trained extensively in both the traditional and the contemporary forms. In addition to training under the Manipuri physical theatre masters Sabitri Devi and Late Heisnam Kanhailal, she has formally trained in Drama & Speech and has subsequently been awarded the ‘Associate of Trinity College London – (ATCL) Diploma with Distinction’ and 'Licentiate of Trinity College London - (LTCL) Diploma with Merit' in Speech & Drama and Performance Arts respectively. She has attended the Shakespeare Summer School at the Royal Academy Of Dramatic Art (RADA), London and completed the Professional Development Program in Drama-In-Education at the University Of Dublin, Ireland.
